İsmail Çataklı, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Ministry Spokesperson of Turkey, normalised at a meeting the scandalous rates of femicide by comparing these to statistics of car accidents.
The number of car accidents during the Eid al-Adha holiday, the terrorist Minister said, was higher than the rates of femicde. Attempting to normalise the increasing rates of femicide, the lowly minister claimed that these statistics were decreasing.
“During the 5-day holiday between July 30 and August 3, 2020, there were 60 casualties and 44 deaths in 28 provinces,” Çataklı said. He claimed that “only” 142 women lost their lives this year, stating that the statistics last year was 193 deaths.
In reality, at least 204 women have been killed this year in Turkey, according to the Monument Counter site, where the names of women who were exposed to male violence and who were killed are published.
